To empower individuals through a life-altering therapeutic experience to enhance change and growth, with the outcome of healing.
Think of a Paradigm Shift as a change of one way of thinking, to another. It's a revolution, a transformation, and a sort-of metamorphosis. It just doesn't happen, but rather it is driven by agents of change...... change of thoughts, change of behaviors.... simply change nonetheless. (courtesy: taketheleap.com)
Psychotherapy is a journey into self. This may help you start making changes in your life and be able to work through situations or events that seem painful and stressful. Our approach focuses on cognitions, emotional regulation and behavior changes. We utilize evidenced based practices to restructure and manage identified symptoms. Some of the Specialty Areas are:
CERTIFIED CLINICAL TRAUMA SPECIALIST:
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a comprehensive psychotherapy treatment approach based on the methodology of Adaptive Information Processing Theory (Shapiro, 2007). EMDR not only resolves the symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, but also the underlying unhappiness and interpersonal issues due to acute or complex traumatic events over one's lifespan and specializing with First Responders. The ultimate goal is Post Traumatic Growth - one's ability to share their experience of healing.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC-14197), Todd has worked with a wide ranger of adult populations specializing with those who struggle with interpersonal (others) or intrapersonal (self) relationships. Some clients have had emotional distress as it relates to monogamous relationships and or polyamorous agreements. Other clients have been impacted directly or indirectly by substance use, legal issues, and or serious mental health issues. Additionally, Todd has worked with those whom are suffering from chronic illnesses such as, HIV/AIDS, particularly those who identify themselves in the LGBTQ communities.
Our ultimate goal is to provide recommendations of holistic approaches as therapeutic interventions. In addition to holistic approaches that may address the body and spiritual aspects to recovery, we may also include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that helps address and manage symptoms of the mind.
As a Licensed Independent Substance Abuse Counselor (LISAC-11639) for over 13 years, Todd can recommend several evidence-based approaches to treating substance use disorders. Treatment can occur in a variety of settings, take many different forms, and last for various lengths of time, based on your needs.
Because substance use is typically a chronic issue characterized by occasional relapses, a short-term, one-time treatment is usually not sufficient. For many, but not all, treatment may be a long-term process that involves multiple interventions due to multiple underlying issues (depression, anxiety, trauma, and or other mood type symptoms.
Our philosophy is to take an existential approach interweaving psycho-educational therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, EMDR, psychopharmacological therapy (a referral if so desired), and holistic interventions that address life-style changes promoting self-care and wellness.
There are times that spiritual, traditional, cultural and or outside recovery support groups may be encouraged. We are well versed in the community support system and can help to inter-link these supports into the healing process.
Todd is available and credentialed for clinical supervision on a contract basis for associate level clinicians.
